About vannamei shrimp
Vannamei is the most widely farmed shrimp in the world. It is raised in brackish water ponds and harvested throughout the year, which makes it one of the most consistent products in international seafood trade.
In India, vannamei accounts for around three quarters of farmed shrimp production, with Andhra Pradesh the leading state. Frozen shrimp is India’s largest seafood export and is shipped to the United States, China, Europe, Japan, South East Asia and the Middle East.

Where it comes from
India
Andhra Pradesh produces most of India’s shrimp, followed by West Bengal and Gujarat.
Vietnam and Thailand
Long established producers with a strong range of raw, peeled and cooked shrimp.
Indonesia
A major farming country supplying frozen vannamei to Asia, the Middle East and beyond.
